Classic Collar Choke From Back Control

I am now back to a regular training schedule and I have been hitting this choke. This choke is ridiculously simple but very effective. There are bow and arrow chokes available if this is unsuccessful but here is the classic.

Also, checkout grandmaster Helio Gracie tapping out Royler Gracie with this choke in this clip at 7:50. Royler doesn't appear to be trying but I wouldn't be surprised that the grandmaster actually choked him out at that old age.

Ramadan is here and training is going to be tough

Ramadan mubarak everyone!

I am going to be training in jiujitsu during this Ramadan but I have a dilemma ahead of me. The classes conflict with extra time for worship and training is a taxing activity. I wil be training this Ramadan but with lower intensity and less sparring. At 17 hours, I have never fasted such a lengthy fast in my life so I am going to take it easy during training. No water and lots of fluid loss due to exercise is a dangerous combination.

Lockdown - Sweeps and Excellent Half Guard Control

I was training recently and my opponent ended up in my half guard but I had double underhooks on him. However, I did not know what to do at that point. A quick google search and these videos are what resulted. Lockdown an excellent jalf guard control method. Here are two sweeps from lockdown (half gaurd with double underhooks).

Hip Bump Sweep

Here is a very simple sweep that is taught at the very beginning of must jiujitsu instructions. I like this video explaination because the video is good quality and the explaination is great.

Jiu Jitsu Curriculum for White Belts

I was recently been searching for a curriculum for bjj that encompasses most if not all of the techniques that are required to be mastered by a white belt before going to blue belt. I was able to locate the following resources.

I hope this helps someone else as these were very helpful for me.

Rickson Gracie Shoulder Rolls

For the past few months, our instructors have been asking us to do and practice Ricskon Gracie shoulder rolls for neck and shoulder flexibility. However, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't do the shoulder rolls. In this drill, we started from a sitting position on our knees and rolled our shoulder on to the mat as if doing a forward roll and then tucked our chin and did an incomplete shoulder roll. The reason I say incomplete is because we end up on our shoulders and neck. It is similar to the drill in the link below and I think the link does a better job of explaining it.

Where I had trouble doing this was staying on my neck and shoulders. I always ended up doing a complete forward roll and could never stabalize myself on my neck and shoulders until I finally figured it out yesterday. The key to this drill is your feet. The farther back your feet are from your face, the easier it will be. I can't find any pictures or videos of this drill on the internet but if I do, I'll post it.
